OUR PROJECT

Your Voice! Your Health! is a three-year project funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Led by Dr. Marshall Chin, along with an extensive team of expert investigators in the field of shared decision making (SDM), this study aims to reduce healthcare disparities in the LGBTQ racial and ethnic minority community

This project has three main goals:

1. Systematically review key issues in SDM between LGBTQ racial and ethnic minority populations and their health providers around various health conditions or situations.

We will explore what is known about contextual factors affecting SDM in LGBTQ racial and ethnic minorities, and what is known about these groups regarding the SDM domains of information sharing, deliberation, and decision making. We will also identify what tools have improved SDM in LGBTQ racial and ethnic minority populations.

2. Obtain input and feedback from diverse stakeholders

We are obtaining the input and feedback from diverse stakeholders (including organizations, community groups, health care delivery systems, clinicians, and patients) to:

a) determine desired content, presentation of information, and process for SDM

b) tailor to media and health information technology

c) determine priorities for development and implementation of SDM products, and

d) determine the contextual factors that affect SDM (e.g., clinic design, incentives, implementation issues).

3. Develop tools to help improve communication and SDM between healthcare providers and their LGBTQ racial and ethnic patients in under-resources settings
