November 30, 2016 — The South Side Diabetes Project hosted its 5th Annual Diabetes Cook Off Contest at Washburne Culinary Institute at Kennedy King College on November 15, 2014. Hosted annually by the South Side Diabetes Project during National Diabetes Month, the cook off is a live competition judged by a panel of food, health, and wellness experts. This contest is an opportunity for amateur cooks from the community to compete and share great tasting, healthy recipes and to demonstrate just how easy and enjoyable and affordable healthy cooking and healthy living can be. Recipes in four categories, side dish, entrée, dessert, and snack, were judged for a grand prize of $1,000. This free and family-friendly event is preceded by a community resource fair with free flu shots and health information. Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago is a project spearheaded by CCDTR Associate Director Dr. Monica Peek and CCDTR Director Dr. Marshall Chin. The project engages patients, providers, clinics, and community partners to improve the health care and outcomes of African-Americans living in the South Side of Chicago. Click here to learn more!
