December 2, 2014 – In observance of National Diabetes Month, the South Side Diabetes Project hosted its 3rd Annual Diabetes Cook Off Contest at Washburne Culinary Institute at Kennedy King College on November 15, 2014. This contest is an opportunity for amateur cooks from the community to compete and share great tasting, healthy recipes and to demonstrate just how easy and enjoyable healthy cooking and healthy living can be. Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago is a project spearheaded by CCDTR Associate Director Dr. Monica Peek and CCDTR Director Dr. Marshall Chin. The project engages patients, providers, clinics, and community partners to improve the health care and outcomes of African-Americans living in the South Side of Chicago.
