Dr. Michael Quinn wins award for South Side Diabetes research abstract poster at 2013 Midwest SGIM Meeting

September 16, 2013 – On September 12 and 13, CCDTR investigators attended the annual Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) meeting at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. At the meeting, Dr. Michael Quinn presented and won an award for a poster about the South Side Diabetes project entitled “Facilitating Patient Behavior Change: Training in Brief Behavioral Counseling Skills for Providers on Chicago’s South Side.”

During the meeting, Dr. Milda Saunders presented her research during the opening plenary session on Thursday. Drs. Marshall Chin and Elbert Huang served on a panel that discussed accountable care during the plenary session on Friday. Yue Gao, Katie Gunter, Debra Maltby, and Dr. Neda Laiteerapong gave oral presentations about their research on Friday.

Workshops led by CCDTR investigators included a workshop about effective communication as a leader in internal medicine led by Dr. Deborah Burnet, a workshop about the roadmap to reduce disparities led by The Findings Answers team, and a workshop about the CMMI-awarded Comprehensive Care Physician program led by Drs. David Meltzer and Lisa Vinci.

Friday afternoon, Aviva Nathan, Robert Nocon, and Dr. Michael Quinn presented their research at the closing poster session.
