Nyahne Bergeron News

May 2013 – Nyahne Bergeron has been awarded the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship in Chicago for 2013-2014. The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship (ASF) website reports that “fellows are competitively chosen from health-focused graduate student applicants in a variety of fields—and have worked tirelessly to address health disparities and the social determinants of health throughout the greater Chicago area.” During her fellowship, Ms. Bergeron will initiate a program to promote exercise and physical fitness among minority adults living with diabetes on the South Side of Chicago. In collaboration with the Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago project at the University of Chicago, and various South Side parks and fitness facilities, the program aims to address barriers to physical fitness, increase awareness of the benefits of exercise, and enhance physical activity among participants.
